AIM HIGH AKRON College Readiness Week

AIM HIGH AKRON College Readiness Week
Posted on 08/02/2022
This summer Aim High Akron GEAR UP had over 80 rising 7th and 8th grade students from Buchtel, East, Innes, and Jennings participate in an AIM HIGH AKRON College Readiness Week! The students visited Kent State University, Stark State College, The University of Akron and The University of Mount Union.  College visits included a tour of the facilities, hands-on activities, and dining on campus!

Furthermore, students engaged in one fun-filled day at their schools with session’s facilitated by DREAMS Academy, Limitless Ambition, and Dr. Lisa Sims, learning about leadership, passion planning, and understanding one’s self and conflict resolution.

The objective for the GEAR UP early college programming is to improve academic skills, increase parental involvement, and encourage college enrollment, and increase financial /college awareness. Being exposed to being on a college campus can increase students’ confidence in their ability to attend college. Having a proactive push can help in creating a college-going tradition for future generations within a family.

Special thank you to our lead partner, Project GRAD, our target schools, Buchtel CLC, East CLC, Innes CLC, and Jennings CLC, and our University/College connections, Kent State University, Stark State College, The University of Akron and The University of Mount Union.  We look forward to working with our students in the academic year! Lets GEAR UP!
