Congratulations to 20 of our Education Professions & Leadership scholars and teacher Mr. Peter Viola who attended all 3 sessions of Judge David Hamilton's "Raise the Bar" Program. The program was designed by Judge Hamilton in collaboration with Ileen Shapiro Summit County Executive's office to introduce scholars to the various aspects and possible career opportunities of both the legal and leadership professions.
Throughout the course of these workshops, students were exposed to strength assessments, goal setting and problem solving activities, panel discussions and question and answer sessions with highly respected and accomplished judges, lawyers and various court personnel.
The scholars gave the following responses:
- "It meant a lot to get advice from powerful people that looked like me."
- "This program really helped me think about the decisions I am making now."
- " I realize that there are good people out there who are willing to help me succeed and reach my goals."
- "There was so much real life advice and hands-on activities that I will take with me to get ready for college...it kind of made me think about the habits I have now and what I want."
- "I really liked being able to connect with highly successful people who really cared about my future."
- "I really enjoyed Raising the Bar because it was motivational and opened my eyesto new possibilities. I had my mind set on health care after graduation, but I might consider going into law now that I have a better understanding of the law professions."
