Ellet students earn APCO certification

Ellet students earn APCO certification
Posted on 04/20/2020

When students in the Criminal Justice Pathway at Ellet CLC heard that school was moving to online connected learning due to COVID-19, some knew they had a  job to finish to give them an opportunity for employment right out of high school. Ellet seniors, Hannah Aston, Chloe Richardson, and Laquasia Johnson all passed the APCO public safety dispatcher course during the stay at home order.
They used an online textbook to prepare for weekly Wednesday modules.  Each module consisted of about 4-5 hours of work and had a quiz that the students were required to pass.  Some of that time was spent online interacting with the other students in the course; however, a good amount of that time was spent independently reading through the material.  They were also required to check in with their teacher, Mr. Eric Fendenheim, every week by Friday.

APCO certification plus a high school diploma opens opportunities for students to gain employment with city dispatch centers for police and fire.  Congratulations to these outstanding students on completing the certification!
