AKRON, Ohio (January 16, 2020) – Today, Akron Public Schools (APS) Superintendent Dr. David James joined Huntington National Bank Akron Region President Nicholas Browning to announce that Huntington National Bank will become a named integrated partner in the College & Career Academies of Akron at Buchtel CLC.  Huntington will offer instructional support and real-world learning opportunities in areas of business management, marketing and entrepreneurship. The academy will be named The Huntington Academy of Global Industry and Design.

"Akron Public Schools is grateful to Huntington National Bank for joining this exciting endeavor.  We are seeing tremendous results from the contributions made by our many business partners in College & Career Academies of Akron," says David W. James, Ed.D. Superintendent.

“Huntington is committed to helping people lead better lives and strengthening the neighborhoods within the City of Akron,” says Nick Browning, President of the Akron Region for Huntington. “We deeply appreciate the opportunity to work with the dedicated team of educational professionals of the Akron Public Schools to shape the future of the students and family members of the College & Career Academies of Akron at Buchtel CLC.”

Buchtel CLC Campus Principal Nicole Hughes also welcomed Huntington as their new partner.  “Huntington's commitment to the community is inspiring and we're grateful they wish to share their time and talent with our outstanding students and teachers,” says Hughes.

The collaboration between Akron Public Schools and Huntington National Bank was formed with the help of United Way of Summit County.   United Way serves as a link between the College & Career Academies of Akron and local businesses to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and to strengthen the education to employment pipeline in Summit County.

“Today’s announcement is yet another example of Huntington National Bank’s commitment to the community,” said Jim Mullen, president and CEO of United Way of Summit County. “Just as they have helped United Way pursue our Bold Goals and improve the lives of local residents, I am confident Huntington’s work with the College & Career Academies of Akron will help students achieve their goals in the classroom and beyond.”

.APS was designated a Ford Next Generation Learning Community in May 2017.  Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, is supporting the transformation of public high schools into career-themed academies to better prepare students for college and professional success in today's competitive global economy.   College and Career Academies of Akron are supported by the following key strategic partners:  GAR Foundation, United Way of Summit County, ConxusNEO, Summit Education Initiative, and Greater Akron Chamber of Commerce.
