NSBE Virtual STEM Career Day
Posted on 03/29/2021
In a hybrid environment, at their homes or at their school buildings, 33 students from 8 middle schools participated in 2 hands-on STEM activities. Students were welcomed by President Miller, the president of the University of Akron.  Students engaged in fun and educational instruction while creating their very own one of kind pasta rovers and robotic arms.  School counselors or school librarians from each building along with University of Akron counselor interns served as on-site facilitators.  NSBE members, Dennis Williams and Antonio Crenshaw, under the direction of Dr. Julie Zhao, served as the lead "engineers" for the event.  In addition, Dennis and other team members designed, created and delivered the NBSE STEM Career Day kits to Akron Public Schools' main building. The kits included all materials for the event, snacks and The University of Akron memorabilia.  Student Service team delivered the kits to students' homes or school buildings.

At the close of the event, students were addressed by Dr. Dallas Grundy, senior vice president, chief financial officer at The University of Akron.  Dr. Grundy is a former NSBE member.   It was a great learning experience for the students and real-life exposure to the possibilities for their futures!

The event was coordinated by Career Advisor,  Dreama Whitfield.
